Description
Attractive 18k yellow gold large sized fusee pocket watch made by E Whistler in pristine condition.
A rare English 1860s fusee watch made in the style of a French verge fusee from approx. 1780.
The bulging white enamel dial remains in immaculate condition showing no faults or damaging of any kind.
Striking blue Roman hour indication and a black enamel minute outer track. The deep blue Roman hours generate a classic yet extremely elegant character together with the thin golden Breguet hands (minute hand showing restoration) and an impressive front lid set with 45 pearls.
Turning this timepiece around, we find an even more imposing presentation showing another band of 45 pearls encircling a substantial and flawless deep blue/purple enamel decoration. Looking further you’ll discover a highly detailled engraving below this striking enamel showing a number of playful patterns and symbols.
The condition of this watch is quite extraordinary. A case decorated with enamel and set with many natural pre-1900 (non-cultivated) pearls, although made of the finest quality with first-class gem setting skills, remains a fragile object. Discovering no flaws except for minimal superficial scratches indicates this watch has been taken well care of throughout its life.
The fusee movement is signed by its maker, E Whistler, and is running with a solid tick.
Watch is accompanied by an antique pocket watch key.
