Description

The watch proudly displays the Geneva Observatory Seal stamp, located on the platine beneath the dial (as shown in the picture). The prestigious ‘Poinçon de Genève,’ or Geneva Seal, imposes rigorous criteria for both functional excellence and movement refinement. True to its name, this certification also mandates that the watch must be crafted in the city of Geneva.

While all contemporary Patek Philippe timepieces bear their unique chronometer seal (Patek Philippe introduced this personal certification when they believed the Geneva Seal’s standards were no longer sufficiently stringent), it remains exceptionally uncommon to find an antique Patek Philippe pocket watch adorned with the ‘Poinçon de Genève.’ This example is one of few, often fetching high prices when offered for sale at renowned auction houses.

The flawless white enamel dial features black Roman hour indications and a sunken decentralized seconds sub register with slim blued steel seconds hand.

The sturdy savonet case is made out of three heavy 18 carat rose gold lids. A monogram is engraved on the front lid (which jumps open when the top button is pushed down). The case bears multiple gold and Patek Philippe hallmarks. The inside dust cover shows an engraving of A.H.Rodanet, one of the most famous chronometer manufactures/retailers of his time (located in Paris). This is the reason for the non signed dial as most retailers prefer the watches in their store to be ‘anonymous’.

The movement with a Guillaume balance, wolf-tooth winding gears and diamond end-stone is in excellent original condition. The movement winds and ticks smoothly whilst keeping accurate timing.

The watch is accompanied by a Patek Philippe extract of the archives indicating the production year of 1893 and the sale on May 25th, 1900.

Extremely rare timepiece which does not often surface in todays market.
